My Name is Kendel Hickenbottom. I attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant Ok. and Cameron University in Lawton Ok. Graduated with a Degree in Music Education 1991. I have been the Head Band Director at Wellington ISD for 7 years, Paris ISD 1 year, Eustace ISD 1 year, Henrietta ISD 9 years, Mexia ISD 1 year, and Vernon ISD 2 years.
This years Vernon High School Band has 83 members Our groups last years awards were 1st division at Concert Contest. They were amazing!!!
We had 11 students in the All-District Honor band
4 students in the All-Region Honor Band
1 student made Area
Solo and ensemble we had 17 students at the region level with 100% moving on to State. We had a soprano sax solo, trumpet solo, Sax quartet, 2 percussion Ensembles
We also had a rock group that was started last year called "Five Loaves" which had 4 performances.
Pretty incredible for a first year. None of these students had play before this last year and they were already giving concerts and having fun. |
