ACT TEST
The ACT college admission test will be given at VHS on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Students need to go to www.actstudent.org to register for this test. The registration deadline is January 13, 2012. Seniors who have not yet taken the ACT are strongly encouraged to take it at VHS on February 11.
FINANCIAL AID MEETING
Vernon College Financial Aid Department will be at VHS on January 19, 2012 at 6 PM in the cafeteria. Melissa Elliot will discuss the many ways to pay for college and will discuss filling out the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Sr. students and their parents are encouraged to attend.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Senior Students will get a list of available area scholarships on October 3 in their Government Class. Once they receive the list, they will mark the scholarships for which they wish to apply and give it to me, their counselor. I will then give them those applications. Most applications will be mailed directly to the foundation or company awarding the scholarship. Each scholarship application has its own specific criteria and guidelines and deadlines.
APPLYING TO COLLEGE
Senior Students should already be thinking about colleges, and yes they should already be applying. Go to www.applytexas.org to fill out an application that can be sent to Texas colleges and universities.

COLLEGE ADMISSION PROCESS TIPS

1. Apply Texas Application is online now.
www.applytexas.org
2. Complete the entire application. Unanswered questions can delay your admission decision.
3. Contact your institution of choice by phone or email to determine their method of application for scholarships & on-campus housing. Check each college website for their priority application dates and deadlines. Every institution has different priority dates.
4. Application fees are required at many institutions. Your application will not be process without the receipt of appropriate fees. If you received a fee waiver for the SAT or ACT test it may be possible to waive the college application fees.
5. Your high school must electronically send your transcript. Sign up in Mrs. Gonzales' office if you need your transcript sent to a college or for a scholarship application.
6. College Day at VHS will be Friday, November 4, 2011 from 9:00-11:00. Talk to the recruiters from the colleges that interest you.
7. Essays are required by many institutions. The students should proof read all writing samples before submitting.
